I am overwhelmed with the support from my family, friends and new found friends who came by Borders today. We had a great turnout and I am so very grateful for the support. I know I have some wonderfully supportive friends but you guys went above and beyond today. Seeing familiar faces that have been part of my life almost for as long as I can recall, gave me a warm feeling. So great to see my cousins, Steve and his family of girls, bless his heart with all that estrogen, (those girls have the best daddy around and Rowena has a great hubby) my cousin Lori and her precious little boy, Tucker, who stole everyone’s heart and my cousin Tracy, my Uncle Richard’s son all came by. They will never know what seeing them today meant to me. I truly love talking to people about their experiences with Alzheimer’s. There are so many lives that are touched by the disease and knowing that I perhaps have raised awareness on the subject is very important to me. As I think back on the day, there were several times that I thought how much I wished Uncle Richard and Aunt Betty had lived to see the publication of the book, but on the way home I saw the most beautiful sunset and I knew that there is no doubt that Uncle Richard and Aunt Betty know all they meant to me. Wish you all could’ve known them. Great people to have in your life.

I cannot thank Barnhills enough for inviting me to have my first book signing there tonight. I was honored to have my Aunt Betty’s brother, Fred Hauser and his wife Leila come by. The book was inspired by my uncle Richard who was married to Betty, so to have them take the time to come by and buy 2 books meant the world to me. My Aunt Linda and Uncle Dennis came by too. Linda has been a blessing to me my entire life and having her share in the joy of my accomplishment was so special. Gosh the memories of all the times she was there in my life came flooding back. What a lady! Once again I realize the blessings of those who have been with me my entire life. Now on to Casanovas Coffees on Friday and Borders on Saturday. Having so much fun.

I am looking forward to Thursday morning and my interview with the FOX 8 Morning team, Brad and Cindy. Getting a little nervous, but nerves are good, right? I am very passionate about not only my book but about raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease. So tune in around 8:45 am on Thursday morning, Jan 13th and then let me know how you think I did (be kind, please). Take care and will chat more tomorrow.

My interview with Lora Songster on WMAG will air in parts during their morning drive time on Thursday, Jan 13th. Again, I have been very fortunate to have such wonderful contacts within the media and am very thankful for all the opportunities that I have been afforded.

Due to the inclimate weather, my interview with WMAG morning dj Lora Songster was done via phone this morning. From start to finish, the interview went perfectly! Lora is such a pro and so easy to talk to. We discussed my work with Forsyth Woman and Forsyth Family magazines and the inspiration behind my book ‘Fishing for Memories’. It was such an honor to speak with her about a subject very dear to me, Alzheimer’s. Parts of the interview will air this Thursday Jan 13th at 6:45 am on WMAG, 99.5 and the interveiw in its entirety will be on WMAG’s web site. So tune in this week and hope to see you guys at the book signings. Take care and be safe.

Anyone who knows me is pretty straight on the fact that I hate winter and snow, so I am not a happy camper right now. However, I am getting some good writing done on my third book about a group of breast cancer survivors, The Breast Friends. With getting ‘Fishing for Memories’ printed and my weekly writing for Forsyth Woman and Forsyth Family magazines, I have stayed pretty busy and the breast cancer book has been on the back burner. I pulled out the interviews of the ladies last night and couldn’t stop putting their inspiring tales of facing the words ‘You have cancer’ head on and moving through their journey with their friends by their side. I am so looking forward to finishing this and adding the beautiful photos we had taken last summer in Raleigh when the ladies gathered one day. My co-writer in this endeavor is my friend Kimberly and we have been touched through our friendships with the Breast Friends and hope we do their stories justice.

Hi everyone,

Getting things in gear for next week’s busy book signing schedule. After posting on Facebook about my upcoming events, I have heard from so many people about how Alzheimer’s has touched their lives. I hope ‘Fishing for Memories’ can be a tool for parents to use in sharing the subject of Alzheimer’s with their children and as a book about the importance of never giving up.

On January 11th, I will have the honor of chatting with Lora Songster, WMAG’s morning DJ. The interview will be taped and I will post when it will air on this blog and on Facebook.

On January 13th, I am so excited about being on FOX 8 with Brad Jones and Cindy Farmer to talk about my book and the inspiration behind the book, my Uncle Richard Speas. The media from print, Forsyth Woman & Forsyth Family Magazine, to TV, Triad Today with Jim Longworth, WXII and FOX 8, to radio, WMAG, have been so gracious in having me as a guest and making me feel at home. I am so appreciative for everyone’s help in getting the word out on not only my book, but on Alzheimer’s. Presently, my book is available for purchase at June DeLugas Interiors in Clemmons, NC. She has been so generous to carry the book in her shop.

My first book signing in also on January 13th, from 5:30-7:30 at Barnhill’s, on Burke St. in Winston-Salem. I love the thought of meeting people who have been touched by Alzheimer’s and sharing my uncle’s story and hearing their stories too.

Friday, January 16th, I hope to have a great turnout at Casanova’s Coffee in Lewisville for the book signing. Owner, Adele Casanova has graciously allowed me two times for the day, 9-11 am and 2-4 pm. So drop by and grab one of Casanova’s delicious coffees and sweets, say Hi and check out my book.

The busy week ends at Border’s at Thruway from 1-4 pm with another time of sharing and signing. There is nothing better than a book store. It may sound strange, but I love the smell of books and paper and just being surrounded by great writers and their works makes me feel really neat.

Hope one of the locations and times works out for you all.
